Digg removes Top Digger List

Digg removes listing of top diggers -- The news ranking company has removed its list of the people who have contributed most do top Digg stories, to stop gaming of the site, or at least the perception of gaming. For starters, it removes the temptation for eager marketers to bribe top diggers for favors. Thus ends a hallmark of Digg. Ranking on the list was one motivation for Digg's passionate users. nfl.com by:Gil Brandt - Brandt's Super Bowl analysis

Immediately following the conference championship games, the big questions -- Who is going to win? What are both teams going to do to win the game? -- start getting asked. I think some of the trends that led to success in previous Super Bowls may not be as strong over the last couple of years as they were 10 years ago. That said, we'll try to give you some thoughts on what it will take to win Super Bowl XLI.

For starters, here's a look at the key numbers from the regular season that we've been using to analyze the playoffs:

                                                 Indianapolis                                     Chicago
Common opponents                     5-0                                                 3-2
Points scored                                 427                                                 427
Points allowed                               360                                                 255
Turnover differential                 plus-7                                              plus-8
Sack differential                          plus-10                                           plus-15
Time of possession                      29:32                                              30:34

A few notes about this: The teams that allowed fewer points in the regular season are 28-11 in the Super Bowl (in 2004, the Patriots and Eagles allowed the same number of points)… In the last four games of the regular season, the Colts allowed 109 points and the Bears allowed 105. In the playoffs, the Colts have allowed an average of 16 points per game, and the Bears have allowed 19 points per game.

cnn.com 1/31/07 - Microsoft's Vista goes on sale

Consumers can finally get their hands on Microsoft Corp.'s long-delayed Windows Vista, but unlike the mad midnight rushes retailers saw with the recently released video game consoles, stores saw only a trickle of early adopters Tuesday.

Retailers around the world held special midnight events Monday or opened early Tuesday morning, as the Vista operating system and Office 2007 business software went on sale in 70 countries.

Some stores, including a Best Buy in midtown Manhattan, brought in extra employees to handle pent-up demand for Vista. (Watch Microsoft's Bill Gates talk about the Vista new operating system

cnn.com 1/31/07 - Al-Maliki: Iraq won't be battleground for U.S., Iran

Iraq's prime minister said Wednesday he's sure Iran is behind some attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and he won't allow his country to be a battleground for the two nations.

"We have told the Iranians and the Americans, 'We know that you have a problem with each other, but we are asking you, please solve your problems outside Iraq,' " Nuri al-Maliki told CNN.

"We will not accept Iran to use Iraq to attack the American forces," al-Maliki said Wednesday in an exclusive interview with CNN. (Read more of al-Maliki interview)

"We don't want the American forces to take Iraq as a field to attack Iran or Syria," he added.

cbsnews.com 1/31/2007 - Iraq Reconstruction Mired In Waste

The U.S. government wasted tens of millions of dollars in Iraq reconstruction aid, including scores of unaccounted-for weapons and a never-used Baghdad training camp with an Olympic-size swimming pool, investigators say.

The quarterly audit by Stuart Bowen Jr., the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, is the latest to paint a grim picture of waste, fraud and frustration in an Iraq war and reconstruction effort that has cost taxpayers more than $300 billion and left the region near civil war.

"The security situation in Iraq continues to deteriorate, hindering progress in all reconstruction sectors and threatening the overall reconstruction effort," according to the 579-page report, that was being released Wednesday.

Calling Iraq's sectarian violence the greatest challenge, Bowen said in a telephone interview that billions in U.S. aid spent on strengthening security has had limited effect. Reconstruction now will fall largely on Iraqis to manage — and they're nowhere ready for the task. cbsnews.com/no author found on website
